  • I don't see the point in reducing the keyboard for a desktop machine. Posted by NM, United Kingdom
  • Apple have upped the base model price by £150 - a realignment with the now stronger dollar. The iMac was a constant 'highly recommended' to my clients because of form, function and pricing at £799 before discounts. I can still recommend the computer but at £949, less so. For Brits at least, Apple think different - raise the price in a recession - for me, there are many deals out there. Posted by Simon, UK
  • Now why would you want to wall mount a iMac???

    yes i agree with simon

  • Concerning the price, i think it is still a very competitive machine. Apple is pointing users at the 24" machine, and i think for the price of all their machine, considering everything your getting, its damn good value for money.

Concerning the review, why would you want to wall mount an iMac?! It comes with its own stand, and on a wall would look silly.

"The bad: No wall mount option, no Blu-ray, hard drive not massive (but upgradable), no touchscreen interface"

Why on earth would you want a touch screen on your desktop? And as for the hard drive being in the bad section, it contradicts itself with the (but upgradable) part. Also, its stated as a good thing that all the innards are upgradable.

Sometimes, i do have to sit back and think "Do reviewers put ridiculous things in bad sections as a cop out?" Because, in all realism, most of the things i see in commercial review websites for the "bad" area is a bit half hearted..

    Just some thoughts.

  • marfin I can understand your thoughts but a touchscreen iMac would offer an excellent medium for Apple's multitouch technology, and I suspect this is what the reviewer has in mind.

Another consideration is that manufacturers such as Asus are now successfully integrating touch technology into desktop computers such as the "eee-top".

As for wall mounting, I'm with you on that! Especially if the iMac were touchscreen AND wall mountable!

  • Even though the price has risen, the iMac is still good value for money. Dell's base XPS One 24" starts at £1,349, £1,199 for the base 24" iMac. Also the iMac has better specs which only increases the value for money aswell as performance. the iMac comes with double the RAM and hard disk than the XPS One 24 (2GB DDR2 vs 4GB DDR3), (320GB HDD vs 640GB).
Overall the iMac is still great value for money compared to some of its Windows based competitors, and it's looks much more sexy, sleek and clean.

  • Bad: Full keyboard option only if you buy from Apple otherwise u have to buy it as an extra. The remote is extra now, that sucks. Bad for games. not enough third party software, either you like Apples or else. Not upgradable a normal person cant go inside and change the hardware like in a PC. Mac Fanboys. Hard to learn how to tweak it (Apple does its best to hide everything). Believe it or not its not better than a PC with photoshop (probably PC is best).

Good: Just works. No OS gripes. Ideal worstation. Iwork and Ilife are great and are cheap for what they provide (probably worth 30% of the price of the mac). Everytime I look at it I smile. I look forward to turning it ON !!!!

Conclusion: Mac is great if your one of those people that dont want to tinker with the machine and dont want to play games, it works like a dream with everything else. Wouldnt go back to windows but will always have a PC as an extra
