  • Carl Zeiss, 8 megapixels, variable aperture shutter.. all nice words that do catch attention, on paper, of the average bells-and-whistles-sensitive CONSUMER.
Problem is that where Nokia could do something to dramatically improve image quality is doing nothing. That is in JPG image compression.

So we get our beautiful lenses, our beautiful variable aperture, everybody gets his mouth watering.. and then? Compression, for mysterious reasons, is set so high that if u compare how much space it takes a picture taken with the N82 or now N86, with your compact 8megapixel Canon it's not even 1/2 the size, often not even 1/3. So what's the point of shooting at 8 megapixels if then to retain only pixel colour information of about 2-3 megapixels?
Aaaahhhh I see... Nokia would like me to buy on the "8" while delivering a real "2-3". This way I'll be for sure in line again at the shop when the next one 14mpix will be out.
I am not sure I want to play this game with Nokia. I might stick to my N82 and wait until raw megapixel race has lost it's appeal and they'll have to seriously start thinking about picture quality.
