  • What sort of lunacy is it that tries to describe Toshiba refusing to throw good money after bad (by not jumping on the High def on disc bandwagon) as "pigheadedness"?

Of all people Toshiba are probably well aware that there are little if any profits in Blu-ray.
Sony keeps talking about "soon" making a profit with the PS3 production costs (which are completely separate from their vast total R&D investment costs....which may never see a return/profit).

....and of course anyone not making the PS3 (or at a pinch a Sony S300/S350 stand-alone) trying to sell anything Blu-ray hasn't a hope in hell of seeing many sales anyways.

Blu-ray clearly has a fanclub which imagines if all the CE corps will just turn over to Blu-ray and force the change then we the customer will have no option but to buy into it and make it a success.

Unfortunately for the Blu-ray evangelists the facts are that to benefit from 1080p resolution you need (at normal viewing distances) a vast (and vastly expensive) HD TV.
Similarly for the improved audio it can offer you need an expensive high-end receiver and a high-end set of speakers to even hear the improved audio.

The mass-market (with HD TVs in the size range 32" - 50") and Dolby Digital receivers and speakers can never & will never fully benefit - and that 'benefit' over DVD upscaled and a Dolby Digital receiver & speaker set-up is hardly 'worth' the huge additional expense.

In short Blu-ray offer the mass-market nothing but very high prices.

VHS > DVD was a big very noticeable leap.
DVD > Blu-ray simply is nothing like as big a difference - and in fact a lot of high definition content is decidedly underwhelming too
(some else the evangelists tend to keep quiet about).
There is a difference, of course, but it simply is not worth the extra costs.

I don't know about you but when I watch a movie I watch the movie.
I don't spend my time playing stupid 'spot the style of wallpaper in the background' or 'spot the blemishes on people's faces' games.

  • This computer also has Maxx Audio in here. For those who don’t know Maxx Audio is made by Waves. They make the coolest Studio software FX, if you like plying music on your computer – this is the one for you.
This is the same company www.maxx.com and www.waves.com .
    This is some serious sh@#!!!
