The bad: UK price is expensive when compared to the US, no external Mic socket
Verdict: The EOS 500D is clearly aimed at the amateur photographer looking for a very good offering without venturing into Canon's higher range like the 40D or above

At £850 I think I'll stick with my 400D for now until the battery dies and (like the 300D before it) I find it impossible to get a replacement. If they'd gone with a £5-600 model with no video recording support at all I would have been much more tempted. Posted by GK, UK
i'll take this camera any day over the 40D.
Just imagine, Live view and video recording on a light weight body. Its perfect combination for travelling.
Buy an expensive L lens if you want quality, it will beat a 40D body with a cheap mid-range lens any day. Posted by ik, Singapore
