  • Unsuitably named games? Oh dear, not well versed in gaming history? Allow me.

Final Fantasy was called Final Fantasy for a very suitable reason. You see, Squaresoft had serious financial problems in the late 80's and Final Fantasy was to be Sakaguchi's last game for the developer, the one he always wanted to make, hence why he called it his 'Final Fantasy'. Fortunately, the game proved to be a smash hit and turned their fortunes around. So there you go.

The Last Remnant is unlikely to be a series in the same vein as Final Fantasy as the game's title refers to a very particular part of the in-game narrative. Ie. the Remnants. And in fact, if you play far enough through, you see why the game has been given that name. And Rush? Moody? I found him quite peppy!

It's really a game for people that understand and appreciate JPGs, as was the quite excellent Lost Odyssey. It's not without it's technical flaws, granted, but they're certainly not so crippling that the game is impossible to enjoy. Unfortunately, the opening paragraph of this review really destroys any credibility for me as the story of Final Fantasy is so well known among gamers...
