Verdict
For us the Xperia X1 looks like it's a valid attempt from Sony Ericsson, but the market is so crowded that it struggles to stand out from the pack

  • "Sony Ericsson has made its first foray into the smartphone market..."

SE has been making smartphones for years!

    G700, G900, W960, P1, P990, P900, W950, M600....

  • I think this depends very much on your definition of smartphone. Posted by chrishall, United Kingdom
  • SE were doing smart phones when they were just ericsson.

this seems to be quite a common mistake with alot of the reviews i read.

It is SEs first user facing attempt to complete with the iphone, but the addons are there for functioanlity on alot of they're other phones.

  • Smartphones is what they have done before... but it is their first foray into a Windows Mobile based Smartphone... ;)

But i'm sure it'll kick ass and come out a huge success!

  • I don't believe Smartphones/Pocket PC's are trying to compete with the iPhone. These phones have been on the market for a long time and the iPhone is competing with them.

I also think there's a lot missed out here. How does the keyboard feel and how useable is it? That's a huge aspect of a keyboard based phone.

How good does the WiFi work? How does Windows Mobile perform on it, and the SE interface work?

I know you had a short time with it, and I just don't think that with such a complex phone as a smartphone a short review can give it any benefit.

  • Looks fancy enough, but not enough to set it aside from the rest of the market. Posted by Beverley Kerry, United Kingdom
