Quick review

The good
Clean design, eliminates top window bar, dynamic homepage, Incognito option, separate tabs, download history, spell check
The bad
Some teething issues, Flash appeared slow, difficult to highlight text, can't drag and drop text, back button problems, no Java support
Verdict
Not without problems the interesting thing is the use of the interface. Waiting for the next update will make things smoother, so don't abandon your current browser yet

Good review and I really like Chrome. I have got rid of Firefox already and have made Chrome my default.

  • Michal, you may come to regret your over-enthusiastic and hasty decision.

Or maybe you work for Google.

I will NOT be adopting this new browser. Google is already much too powerful, and now it's getting scary.

  • If you want a ''Hard'' home button, go to the customise button at top right and scroll down to options and choose the 'Show home button option'

  • Interested in the speed remarks. Chrome seems noticeably slower than Firefox to me - particularly loading Google Mail, Docs lol ....i.e. about the same as IE. Although this is from behind two firewalls and a proxy server, so that may not be a typical experience. Posted by Ashley Oliver, UK
  • As an IE user I was very impressed with Chrome. I personally like the default page displaying recently visited sites as that it pretty much what my default page did in IE, and the speed of loading pages compared with IE was noticably improved.
I have set Chrome as my default and intend to give it a sensible extended go.
Others probably FireFox users may give dark warnings but at the end of the day its a browser for browsing and it looks to be better than IE, it is not a tool for world domination or a mechanism to enslave the masses its a browser.

  • Ah ha - sorry, the "home" button is now firmly in place, and thankfully you can set it to the Chrome home page or any page of your choice. Now I have it, I'm not sure I need it. Posted by chrishall, United Kingdom
  • I downloaded google chrome yestrday and it is alright but face book is slow as hell i cant click like anything..... i might just stick with firefox Posted by Aidan, United States
  • Google’s new browser will give you their web and email services, photo processing, mapping, office applications that will run in said browser and will make you a cup of tea. This is all paid for by personally-directed text ads in your tea leaves, based on analysing a DNA sample taken when you sip the tea and sending your genetic code back to Google for future targeting. http://notnews.today.com/?p=57 Posted by David Gerard, UK
  • I downloaded chrome to test our company website and there is nothing impressive about Google Chrome. Its yet another browser. Do I need it? No. But I will keep it for testing our company website.

  • Hello Google Team,
First of All Congrats to all Team members for your real hard work.I appreciate your lot of smart work and architecture you used. I tried Google Chrome Brand new Browser. I really like its performance and simply it is super. The way you implemented Chrome is really appreciable.
Since it is BETA version from Google, I would like to provide some comments from my experience.
    1. Scroll Bar is not working properly when working on my Laptop. [we can move vertical scroll bar down and can't move up].
    2. Font visibility is not Great when compare with IE.
3.There is no Dropdown when try to add website link to Favorites.
    4. Not able to recognize Website image when saved to Links Folder in favorite.
    5. Flash players in Some sites like [www.isaitamil.net] is not working.
    6. Think this browser consumes more memory compare to IE.
    7. Font appearance is not great when you typing password for Net banking like BOA.
    8. If you provide standard menu like IE, that would be great.
am not asking for toolbars like Yahoo.
    Hope this may help you

  • I have to say that I like chrome, there are a few minor issues, pop up windows for example are sized funny and don't show all the content. Layouts sometimes show wrong, (http://www.itbargainstore.com) but these are fairly minor issues for a first release of a browser, I will still keep using IE and firefox depending on what I am doing but chrome is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Interested to see what the next beta release improves on, and yes add an rss reader asap.

    Cheers

  • In the past have used Firefox as my main browser (preferred it to IE). However since trying the Chrome Beta I find it hard to go back to Firefox (let alone IE). Chrome's beautifully simple, unobtrusive yet intuitive interface makes other browsers seem clunky by comparsion. Posted by Dave G, UK
  • Oh - just so I don't sound totally like a Google Chrome ad, have encountered some problems with pages (usually secure irc) not opening in Chrome while they open fine in Firefox. For that reason alone, can't switch over to it completely - but then it is a beta (which also means I can't really use it at work). Posted by Dave G, UK
  • Dave G - I agree, and since writing the review above, I have continued to use Chrome, find it very stable, fast and freeing up more screen space than other browsers. I still have IE7 and Firefox, but find I'm using them less and less. Posted by chrishall, United Kingdom
