Quick review

The good
Great price, powerful spec, well built
The bad
Poor battery life, basic screen
Verdict
The processing power and quality keyboard are what makes this notebook but the less than perfect screen detracts from the overall finish

  • I think this laptop is also known as the ASUS X56SE-AP111C Posted by R Gregg, UK
  • It's now end of March 2009... I was looking to replace my ageing PC with a power notebook looking at Toshiba, HP, Sony and latest ASUS when I realized (after reading numerous reviews) that my trusted M51SE can keep up with most of them and: it's still got a phone jack (RJ11) which I need when in the outback without ADSL or to fax, has an eSATA port for my exteral WD 1TB but not at the front (how idiotic), and also has WXGA+ (1440x900) ... when connecting to my Samsung SyncMaster215TW (managing its 1680x1050 with ease) the display quality is simply stunning, almost orgasmic... I am not a gamer but a database developer and keen photographer and can only say this is one of the best notebooks ever made - what, now obsolete? I don''t think so at all, buyer beware! This new hyperglossy stuff on which you can hardy see what you are typing due to distracting reflexions all over the pace is stuff for airheads and costs megabucks at the moment.
