  • Blackberrys maybe a useful bit of kit out of the office - but they are the most unreliable piece of dog turd ever made.

I've had one not even had mine a year and the amount of things that have gone wrong with it is astonishing - and I've always been very careful with it. Never dropped it, never got it wet, always charged it responsibly.

And it's not just me, pretty much everyone I know who's had/has one says the same thing. I'm switching away from the 'CrapBerry' and getting something that isn't built by blind drunken monkeys.

  • I AGREE, PHONE I HAVE IS A PEARL AND HAVE HAD IT REPLACED 4 TIMES IN 1 YEAR.
TO MANY PROBLEMS, BUT STILL MULTIFUNCTIONAL.

  • Re: Opera on the BB.
I always find it quicker to navigate using the number pad to page up / down / left & right. Try it.

  • hey, that is quicker - thanks for the tip Posted by stuartmiles, United Kingdom
  • I bought my first Blackberry 6 months ago and it is the best phone I've ever had. Granted it isnt the most technologically advanced phone ever designed, but I have yet to have any problems with it and it does everything I need, and more, without any hassle. As a result, I just can't see why I would want to move away from Blackberry anytime in the future. Posted by Neil, UK
  • I've had a pearl for 15 months, washed it and soaked it in the rain and it still works well. I am looking for a bold asap. Posted by Gary Cottam, England
  • I've used a friend's Blackberry and I was impressed (Pretty good phone + good e-mail functions). Browsing the Internet was a painful experience, though. I have also tried the Nokia N95 - nice phone, but pretty dire if you want to browse the Internet. In my opinion, if you want a complete mobile tool - even though it is not perfect- the best option is the Apple iPhone. It is also the most intuitive and easiest to navigate. The Blackberry should be high on your list if you are a businessman because of its great e-mail capabilities.

  • BB user for 30mths (7100, then 8300). Used constantly without any problems. I like the way BB predicts your next command without making it difficult to do something else - it just works without making a fuss, Posted by dominic hayes, uk
  • The best thing about the Blackberry is the User Selectable Fonts. Why don't reviewers ever mention the fonts.

There are a great many users out there who cannot get the mobile phone they want because of tiny fonts.

It's about time we gave a thought to what this is doing to our childrens eyes.

  • The Bold Browser becomes much more fun with these tips:

    1. Adjust mouse pointer speed
I noticed that it was a little obscure to adjust the mouse pointer speed -- it is adjusted in Settings -> Screen/Keyboard (I use 90% sensitivity for horizontal and vertical, I prefer this over the 70% default)
Adjust the amount of zooming before you can edit textboxes, etc
    2. Go into Browser Options, and change font size to a smaller font size such as about 3 or 4. That way, you don't have to zoom in as much before you're allowed to edit text in textboxes. You are allowed to use font sizes as small as 1.
    3. SHIFT + Spin trackball
Fast panning around the web page
    4. ALT + Click trackball
    Zoom out of webpage

  • Also for Opera Mini, to make it more friendly:

    1. To scroll faster in Opera Mini, use the 2/4/6/8 keys for turbo scrolling. It's faster than the trackball.
    2. To have more text on the same screenful in Opera Mini, change Opera Mini settings to use Small text
    3. Enable animations and use full screen mode (turn off title bar) to view more stuff in the same screenful.

And don't forget, speed up the trackball by changing its sensitivity to 90% instead of 70%.

  • Had a bold for less than 2 months and have two problems:
    (1) with the battery life: sometimes lasts less than a day; sometimes get stuck in power down mode and leaves the orange logo on until it discharges completely, then I cant turn it on in the am.
    (2) signal strength and automatic recovery; looses signal goes to SOS then doesnt recover unless I turn the aerial off, then on again.
On the Pearl never had these problems.
    So far, not so good!!

  • Been running a Bold for nearly 2 months and had no trouble at all. Get a strong signal and battery lasts for at least three days without charge and that is with quite heavy use. Amazing screen and great for watching movies on. In my opinon better as a phone than the iPhone but not as good with film and music. Is miles ahead of the N95 which I had before the Bold in everyway except for the camera. Posted by jj, UK
  • I have the same problem as Mathew. I go to the basement of our building, get no signal then go back upstairs and it does not recover unless I reboot. Posted by Joe, US
  • Hi what is the diary you keep on talking about. and how do i use the built in gps on the blackberry bold? Posted by Ryan Ramly, Indonesia
  • QUICK VOTE BOLD 9000 SHOULD I GET OVER THE TOCCO OR N96
    Posted by PHILL, UK
  • Re: QUICK VOTE BOLD 9000

They are 3 completely different phones.
The Tocco is useless in my opinion, all attempts besides the iPhone at touch screen phones have been completely useless, LG being the worst.

The N96 is a brick, hardly any of the cool apps and features it comes with, work with UK networks.

Blackberry on the other hand, this isnt a phone, this is a device, which will do everything you need and more.

  • Just got my BOLD this weekend, very pleased with the phone. However every now and then the phone just refuses to enter the menu via the menu (blackberry button), this is the same for the T,Y,I and 5 key, they just don't work for some reason. after about an hour and a hard re-boot every thing works again. Can somebody please help!!!!! Posted by Jacques van der westhuizen, South Africa
