Canon PowerShot G9 digital camera review

• Nice review. I used to own one of these about 6 months ago and it was a good camera. However, I had to return three of them due to persistent quality control issues so gave up on it and bought a Panasonic FZ18 instead.
  
  As a compact the G9 serves it's purpose well, but for the same price you can now buy a good D-SLR with a kit lens which would produce much better results. However, the size advantage of the G9 would be lost if you buy a DSLR. Also, you can pick up a Panasonic FZ18 for around £200 which is a much more versatile camera than the G9 and produces results that are just as good.
  
  I have since replaced the FZ18 with an Olympus DSLR which is in a different league entirely. Having owned the both the G9 and FZ18 compacts, the Panasonic gives you more bang for your buck and I would give my money to Panasonic rather than Canon in this instance.
  
  Taking what I have said above into account though, I still look forward to the next 'G' camera from Canon. Who knows, they might go the same way as Sigma and put a DSLR sized sensor into a compact-ish sized camera. Now that would be interesting.... Posted by maccer, uk
