Sony has announced two new Blu-ray players at IFA 2007 in Berlin, Germany.

The new players, called the BDP-S300 and BDP-S500 will offer 1080p support and a host of other features.

According to Sony, the new S300 will be a mass appeal model, while the S500 will be for high end users.

The new players will cost £399 for the BDP-S300 and £599 for the BDP-S500, the most affordable Blu-ray players yet.

The BDP-S300 will be available from mid of September and the BDP-S500 from the end of October.

Both models can output 1080p full HD. The BDP-S300 will support 7.1 channel Linear PCM and Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound audio, while the BDP-S500 goes even further, with Dolby TrueHD decoding and Bit Stream Output for DTS-HD3, Dolby TrueHD audio signals via HDMI ver 1.3.

Other features include 24p True Cinema, and 1080p upscaling.

The two new players will come with the Spider-Man trilogy on Blu-ray in the box as standard.

The deal however, is a far cry from Toshiba's 5 HD DVD titles in the box.

No word on pricing, but expect the players to land in the UK before Christmas in time for Spider-Man 3 launch.

More details as we get them.
