Japanese broadcasters unveil Super Hi-Vision TV

Four times the resolution of current HD TV

So, SED is down for the count, but don’t rest on your laurels with your current HD set up – Japanese broadcasters NHK recently unveiled a Super Hi-Vision (SHV) system to "astonished journalists".

Super Hi-Vision boasts a mind-boggling resolution of 4320 horizontal and 7680 vertical lines, Digital Tokyo World quote their contact, Martyn Williams, explaining what this means in real terms:

"That's four times the horizontal and vertical resolution of current HD TV or, put another way, a single Super Hi-Vision image is equivalent to 16 tiled HDTV screens."

At the moment, this resolution is too "heavy" to actually broadcast but, according to Digital World Tokyo, NHK developed high-definition video in 1969 so are no strangers to seeing their innovations reach the market.
