Samsung reveals touchscreen P3 multimedia player

CES 2009: "for the most demanding consumers"

8 January 2009 0:16 GMT / By Chris Hall

Samsung today announced the launch of the P3 at CES in Las Vegas, confirming rumours circulating the web back in November.

Featuring a 3-inch WQVGA screen, Samsung boast that you’ll get a true 16:9 aspect ratio with no need for letterboxing to enjoy your content to the full.

That large screen provides full haptics, giving users physical feedback when using the device. Samsung has upgraded its EmoTure touch interface to what it calls "a more intimate user experience". Oooh behave.

A new Music Hot Touch Key will let listeners access their favourites instantly, avoiding the need to enter menus.

In terms of construction, the P3 is adoringly wrapped in die-cast metal in a matte black or silver finish, and features an internal speaker, so you can share your music on the move.

It also features Bluetooth which Samsung point out will enable you to use the MP3 player as a speaker phone thanks to the built-in mic. Presumably, it will also let you broadcast your music to Bluetooth speakers...

As with the recently launched Q1, the P3 comes with Samsung’s music-enhancing DNSe 3.0 technology, which claims to iron out the artefacts introduced by digital compression for a more authentic reproduction of music.

The P3 will be available in the first half of 2009 in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB sizes. We don’t have prices, but we’ll update when we do.
