SanDisk has announced it will be launching the world's largest removable storage capacity for mobile phones this month.

Its Mobile Ultra microSDHC cards and Memory Stick Micro mobile memory cards will both begin shipping in the States before the month is out, and boast not only an increased capacity of up to 16GB, but also fast transfer rates of digital files from the card to the user's computer.

For added convenience, the card is bundled with a MobileMate Micro Reader that plugs directly into a USB 2.0-compatible port, helping users to both download and upload their files easier.

"As consumers listen to music, view photos, take and watch videos on their phones, the need for high-capacity removable mobile phone memory cards that can quickly transfer these files increases", said Diana Cartwright, senior director of retail marketing, SanDisk.

"Our new 16GB SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC and M2 cards include a MobileMate Micro reader for fast side-loading, offering the most convenient means for people to store, move and play digital content to and from their mobile phones".

Both SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC cards and Memory Stick Micro cards (designed for new generation Sony Ericsson phones) will be available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities. The highest 16GB versions of the cards will be priced at $119.99 (around £78) and $129 (£85) respectively.

European prices and release dates have not been announced as yet, but we'll get them to you when we have them.
