Logitech has introduced the Harmony 1100 advanced universal remote control, that it says delivers powerful home-entertainment controls through a customisable, 3.5-inch full-colour touchscreen.

The Harmony 1100 remote has received the CES 2009 Design and Engineering Award: Best of Innovations in the Home-Entertainment Accessories category, the second consecutive year a Logitech Harmony remote has been honoured with this award.

The palm-sized Harmony 1100 has a QVGA resolution screen and with redesigned Harmony software and an internet-based set-up, complete with wizard guides to help, lets the user select the commands they use most and put those features on the screen.

As an example Logitech says movie fans can put play and pause buttons immediately available on the screen once they start their movie, and accessing TV controls is as simple as pressing a "watch TV" icon on the device's screen.

Capable of learning the codes and commands of 225,000 devices, with a brushed-black aluminum top case and soft-touch bottom case, the rechargeable Harmony 1100 is expected to be available in the US and Europe from the beginning of February for a suggested retail price of $500.

UPDATE: The UK price has been confirmed as £349.00.
