Packard Bell have now officially launched the dot netbook in the UK and we got our hands on the dinky model for a poke around.

With a 8.9-inch screen, the distinctive cylindrical hinge features the red "dot", but otherwise the specs are pretty average for a netbook: Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive.

The glossy lid is an absolute fingerprint magnet, and the keyboard looks decidedly Acer-ish.

Most exciting is the propest of opting for an internal 3G modem and 6-cell battery for longer life on the move. Until we have all the details, take a look at the images we grabbed, not aided by near total darkness...

  • Er, that is an Acer Aspire One, even down to the stupid 'home' and 'end' keys needing the Func key to work.
Now if they sell it for less than Acer that would be interesting - how much of a loss leader can they run with ?

  • Looks ok, apart from the huge Packard Bell logo on it, but wait for the dual core atom out soon.

Internal 3G is a nice touch, but there will be a million of these 3G netbooks out by dec/jan.

  • Yep, that looks just like a rebadged Aspire One of the same spec which is already £250. Posted by Mo, UK
