Asus and Apple slash notebook production

Outsourcing cut by 20-30%

According to the Chinese newspaper, the Commercial Times, both Apple and Asus have had to dramatically cut the production of their notebooks.

In a bid to save money in the fourth financial quarter, both manufacturers have opted to cut their orders from the companies who they outsource some laptop parts from.

In fact, outsourcing is down 20-30%.

The companies affected include Quanta Computer - a Taiwanese company who Electronista suggests is the main builder of unibody MacBooks - and Pegatron Technology, which handles production for Asus.

Asus is apparently limiting its fourth-quarter shipments to 1.7 million notebooks, preventing it from reaching its 2008 goal of 6 million.
