New MacBooks to be carved out of blocks of aluminium by 3D lasers?

Whispers of the Apple "Brick" have touched the periphery of the blog world recently, but apart from some very tenuous speculation, nothing worth reporting has been mentioned.

Now however, 9to5Mac, a reliable Apple news source, claims to have information about what the mysterious "Brick" moniker means.

It appears Apple's new line of laptops will get a revolutionary new manufacturing process, described as a "game changer" and "one of the biggest Apple innovations in a decade".

The MacBook Brick is apparently a block of high-quality, aircraft grade aluminum that's carved into a MacBook shape by 3D laser and water jet cutting.

The report suggests Apple has spent the last few years building an entirely new manufacturing process that will see these smooth devices, capable of more creative design, with no seams, no weak spots and no screws.

9to5Mac states: "The shell is one piece of metal so it is super light, super strong and super cheap".

It's suggested that these new MacBooks will be announced on 14 October - as yet unconfirmed by Apple - so stay tuned and we'll bring you more when we have it.
