Nokia N96 Gets BBC iPlayer 0

The BBC and Nokia have announced that the forthcoming N96, due to go on sale in the UK on 1 October, will get iPlayer support.

Nokia N96 users will be the first with the ability to both to download and stream programmes from the service, although as data charges will apply when accessing the service over a mobile network, costs could run high.

The support comes in via a purpose-built application that will be both 3G and wireless compatible to be pre-loaded on some handsets (presumably operator-dependent) or available to download via bbc.co.uk/mobile.

Simon Ainslie, managing director at Nokia, said: "The Nokia N96 is going to provide a gateway to quality viewing on the move and will raise the bar for mobile screen and audio entertainment."

  • Is this just an attempt to placate users for the fact that the much hyped tv tuner doesn't work in the uk. So actually Iplayer is a downgrade from the intended functionality. Posted by Laughing John, UK

  • Abolutely correct Laughing John, They advertise the tv tuner which does not work in UK, and Mine has not got IPlayer on it and it doesnt work if you go on the Iplayer website, so if you want tv then dont bother. Apart from that the N96 is a good phone Posted by Janjacey, UK
