Philips launches CinemaOne compact cinema system

IFA 2008: Slimmed down surround sound

28 August 2008 14:07 GMT / By Chris Hall

Philips today launched their CinemaOne surround sound system at IFA 2008 in Berlin, Germany, a compact home cinema system.

Following Philips trend away from bulky 5.1 surround sound systems, the CinemaOne provides a home cinema solution in a small round box, measuring 27.5 x 17.2 x 27.3cm, which Philips describe as "like a football".

Featuring four speaker drivers around the sides, with an integrated 4in subwoofer in the base, the CinemaOne includes an upscaling DVD player with HDMI hook-up for your TV. Sitting on the top you’ll also find an iPod dock for that complete solution, as well as a USB port for external music and a 3.5mm jack for connecting your headphones.

Philips say the device has been designed for the "other room", or those with limited space or budget, and would be ideal for boosting TV audio performance in the bedroom or office.

The system should be available towards the end of 2008 in selected markets – France and Germany – and will be available in the UK in January 2009.

No prices have been revealed as yet. We will keep you posted.
