Samsung has officially launched the i8510 8-megapixel camera phone in the UK on Thursday.

The multimedia handset, which also happens to be able to make phone calls will sport a digital camera with 8-megapixels, the first commerically available across the UK.

However we can't help feel that we've seen the handset before?

This is a gallery of official images from Nokia and Samsung of the Nokia N95 8GB and the Samsung i8510.

However we've removed the logos. Can you tell which is which?

  • You're not also of the mindset that every single touch screen device looks like an iPhone are you?

It's black. It's plastic. It's a slider phone. Shock horror, it looks like every other black plastic slider phone. So long as it's good, who cares? When everyones hands are shaped the same, where would you rather they put the buttons? Then we'd be hearing about how awkward the bloody thing is to use, and that the N95's design works better.

They've accepted that the N95 was a feat of ergonomics and functionality, and I would hope are going to push the envelope furthur with this device. That's good news from where I'm standing.

  • Of course not, its just there we were at the UK launch, phone in hand and another journalist got out his N95 8GB to make a call and I had one of those double take moments. Thought we would share our thoughts on the subject. They are very similar, and I mean "Very" similar. Posted by stuartmiles, United Kingdom
  • The photos I have seen of the Samsung phone, it looks much bigger then the N95 8GB Posted by Asgeir, UK
  • Right. We've spoken to Nokia who are getting us a N95 8GB model for Tuesday so will bring you images of the two handsets next week from all angles. Posted by stuartmiles, United Kingdom
  • What for? I don't think anybody here is disputing the similarities in appearance from what you've already shown us. What I'd rather see is a comparison of the operating systems, menus and functionalities. Is the Samsung also a Symbian device for example?

Is the Samsung a better 'N95' than the N95 is? And if so, how? It might make for a good Megawhat.tv feature.

  • More to the point... is the Samsung a better 'N95' than the N96 will be? Since before it's even out the camera on that revision will be dated and the TV tuner more or less redundant for quite some time to come. Posted by L.Rawlins, UK
  • They're both S60 phones too. Posted by Susera, Scotland
  • Well they are similar but samsung looks a lot better, has more MP, metal body, optical touchpad, greater battery life and so on, greater sound quality, better headset and so on and so on... Posted by vik, fr
