A new 15.4-inch laptop is soon to be stocked in Sainsbury's.

The Medion Akoya S5610 is a slim, "highly portable" machine built around the new Intel Centrino 2 platform.

It measures 365 x 265 x 22/34mm and weighs just 2.7kg including the battery.

The laptop has a dark grey metallic finish as well as blue backlighting, including the power button, which is incorporated in the cylindrical hinge barrel.

Specs include a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 processor, 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics, 3GB memory and a 320GB hard drive.

It also delivers 1080p high definition output through the integrated HDMI port, as well as including a dual-layer DVD re-writer and high definition audio.

Also worth a mention are the Intel Wireless and an Ethernet LAN port supplying online capabilities, and integrated 1.3 megapixel webcam and microphone.

Security-wise, you also get a biometric fingerprint reader to keep the machine secure.

Medion is also offering users the option of increasing storage by substituting the DVD optical drive for an additional 320GB hard disk drive, with an extended capacity battery giving up to 10 hours of battery life also available optionally.

The Medion Akoya S5610 comes with Windows Vista Home Premium edition with the new Media Centre interface including Service Pack 1.

The software bundle also includes Nero Essentials with Nero Burning ROM 8 Essentials and Nero Recode 2 as well as BullGuard Internet Security Suite with 90 days of online updates.

The new model will be available from Sainsbury's stores nationwide from the end of July priced at £599.99 including a 12-month warranty.
