Apple to offer iTunes remote app for iPhone

And iPod touch

Apple Remote App For iTunes 0

Apple has released a pre-release version of iTunes 7.7 for developers - and there's an interesting discovery hidden within it.

MacRumours has found that in the "Read Me" part of the iTunes installer is strong hint at a previously unannounced application for the iPhone and iPod touch.

It reads: "Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later..."

"...Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home - a free download from the App Store."

This means that one of the free downloads from the forthcoming App Store from Apple will be a virtual remote control that will allow users to remotely control iTunes in their home from your iPhone or iPod touch.

  • If they'd just put a fully spec'd version of Bluetooth in it in the first place you could have done it anyway... like every other phone out there with the AVRCP profile. That is if iTunes knew what the hell to do with AVRCP aswell, because it certainly loves to crash when I try and use my Sony's.

You have to admire their incessant ability to turn a blatant failing to adopt a widespread standard into a marketing strategy. It's not free either, because you've already gone and paid too much for the damned svelte paper-weight in the first place.

Yes, if it wasn't already apparent, this company really excels in p*ssing me off. Hahaha. :o)
