A new product from Denon is getting the tech world's knickers in a twist with its rather hefty price tag.

The high-end audio company is marketing the AK-DL1 "ultra premium Denon Link cable" Ethernet cable at $499.

Measuring 1.5 metres, it's an item that you can pick up in the UK for less than a quid.

"Designed for the audio enthusiast" Denon states the wire is made from "high purity copper" and offers "high performance connection parts".

The promise is that the pricey accessory will "bring out all the nuances in digital audio reproduction from any of our Denon DVD players with the Denon Link feature".

  • What nonsense! I think I'll buy a bunch of off-the-shelf CAT-6 cables and repackage them as Dr. Sorensen's Audio something or other and see if there are any idiots out there who will buy them.

For what it's worth, Denon was a fairly high quality professional equipment maker who have retreated to the non-professional markets simply because they couldn't keep up and be competitive.

If anyone has purchased these things...if this is even true...then Barnum was right!
