Smartphone maker HTC has a big, global press event planned for 6 May that Pocket-lint will be attending.

The rumour mill has been a-buzz with what the Taiwanese company will introduce, with an Android-based handset favourite, if not perhaps slight wishful thinking.

The latest suggestion to emerge from the blogosphere is that the company are not planning their Android debut but will instead launch a new Windows Mobile smartphones, the HTC "Touch Diamond" and the HTC "Touch Pro".

The Touch Diamond (apparently pictured) would be the successor of Touch Cruise and Touch Pro would be the successor of TyTN II, according to the French language reports.

To be available on T-Mobile, GPSAndCo claims to also have the inside knowledge on the specs for the Diamond device:

* Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
* Qualcomm MSM 7201A @ 528MHz
* 256MB ROM/128MB RAM
* 7.2MB HSDPA/HSUPA (rev A EVDO for Sprint versions)
* 2.8-inch VGA screen
* Wi-Fi
* Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
* eGPS
* 3.1MP camera with flash
* Forward facing camera
* Samsung MoviNAND 4GB internal flash storage
* Orientation sensor
* FM Radio
* microSD expansion
* 900mAh battery
* Dimensions: 51 x 99 x 10.7mm

We will keep you informed of further news regarding the event, and will obviously also be reporting live on the 6th for the real scoop on what actually will be launched.
