Currys has announced it is to stop selling patio heaters.

The move, which has already been carried out online, is to be implemented across the retailer's 550 stores nationwide, with no further orders placed for the obviously not that profitable products.

It follows concerns as to the environmental impact of the outdoor heaters.

Currys states that recent reports estimate that using a patio heater for two hours produces the same amount of carbon dioxide as a car produces in an average day and that the products add 380,000 tonnes a year to Britain's greenhouse gas emissions.

Amanda Clift, head of brand, Currys, comments: "Currys is committed to making progress on the green agenda and we are concerned with how widely available these products are".

"These products make it all too easy to turn to a gas canister to keep warm and we hope that other retailers will follow suit."
