Samsung has announced that it is taking Apple's iPhone head on with the launch of a new mobile phone that features a 3.2-inch touchscreen display.

The new model, called the Samsung F490 will also come with a 5 megapixel camera and a host of other features for customers to get the most out of the screen.

Launching the UK first in February and then the rest of the world shortly after, it will be just 11.8mm thick, just 0.2mm thicker than an iPhone, while the screen is just 0.3-inches smaller on the diagonal.

Featuring the company's "Croix UI" user interface the unit will also feature haptic feedback from touching the screen as found in the company's F700 model available on Vodafone.

Other features include a standard 3.5mm audio jack, support for compatible microSD cards and 130MB internal memory.

HSDPA, and Bluetooth connectivity finish off the specs, and the phone won't offer Wi-Fi.
