Young Drivers' Year Of Learning 0

Young motorists may be forced to learn for more than a year before they can pick up their driving licence if new proposals are introduced.

The BBC reports that police and motoring chiefs have met in Perth, Scotland, in order to convene over young driver fatalities.

Similar rules that may also be passed include limiting the number of passengers inexperienced motorists may carry in addition to a night-time road curfew, it added.

Car insurance policies for young people may fall as a result, while Dianna Ferreira, spokeswomen for road charity Brake, has claimed that the move would be welcome.

She said: "We'd like to see the scheme in place and it has been proven to work. We are calling for this in Scotland".

Last month, research from Brake found that one-fifth of motorists under 25 have driven while under the influence of alcohol.
