Old dogs never die, and that’s no truer than with the Jeep Cherokee. The all-new, and even uglier, daddy of US 4x4s will be unleashed in 2008 and will be seen for the first time at the Frankfurt motor show next week.
Chrysler promises that on-road ride and handling have been improved and refined with a new independent front suspension, new five-link rear suspension and rack-and-pinion steering. The Cherokee will feature an updated 2.8-litre diesel engine, the Selec-Trac II full-time four-wheel drive system plus the choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox.
The exterior has been redesigned and now takes on a more rugged, classic Jeep look. Inside, cargo and storage space has increased and seat comfort has been improved, while the new optional full-length canvas roof offers a quasi-convertible feel.
Chrysler will also next week debut its new Grand Voyager, Sebring Cabrio and the Dodge Journey.
