LG launches dual format BH200 Super Blu Player

Next-gen offering improves on the BH100

Hinted at during IFA 2007, LG has now officially announced the BH200 Super Blu Player that is a dual format offering.

In a move that will hurt early-adopters, the BH200 is an serious update on their previous BH100 - LG has both dropped the price and added more functionality.

Obviously able to play both the rival high-def formats, Blu-ray and HD DVD discs, the player will also upscale standard DVDs.

It's thought that Samsung's capable BD-UP5000 Duo HD player, recently announced, may have spurred their Korean rivals into revamping their own hybrid offering as the BD-UP5000 is a cheaper, more featured option than the BH100.

Now LG have added both BD-Java and HDi support which means the player will be able to support both the graphical extras and interactive features that each format offers.

There is also 1080p output at 60Hz, and support for next gen sound formats including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS and DTS-HD audio.

HDMI 1.3 and LAN Ethernet port complete the feature set. The new LG BH200 Super Blu Player is expected to start shipping in October for around $999.
