Palm has confirmed to Pocket-lint that it will be launching a new Smartphone next Wednesday 12 September.

According to the invite: "The new Treo is perfect for keeping in touch how you want, when you want. With email, MSN instant messaging, text, and voice there's no excuse not to stay in touch".

The event, which doesn't kick off until 5pm in the UK, will be held in central London.

This morning Palm announced the date on its website as part of a competition to win one of the new devices it says is "great for email, mobile internet, instant messaging, text and - with a full keyboard - saying what you really mean".

It's possible that this event could introduce the new "Centro", a shrunk down 755p that rumours suggest will be aimed at a younger market and be the most affordable Palm to date.

We will keep you posted.
