IFA 2007: JVC launches 58- and 65-inch slim HD-ILA televisions

Three new projection models have been on a diet

JVC has introduced three new HD-ILA Hybrid projection TVs — the HD-58DL8, HD-58DS8DD and HD-65DS8DD — at IFA 2007.

Two screen sizes are available, 58 and 65 inches in digital tuner configuration, with cabinet depths of 27.2cm and 29.5cm, respectively.

The new slim measurements have been made possible by the development of a new optical engine and means that they can fit on most stands or similar equipment made for flat panel TVs although JVC will be offering specially designed stands to accompany the range.

The lateral heat dissipation design and side connections mean they can be placed flush against the wall, or even hung.

The new HD-ILA Hybrid TVs each use three native 1080p D-ILA devices known as LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology.

Developed exclusively by JVC, the company claim this technology offers dense pixel spacing that ensures a brighter, smoother image with high contrast.

The new optical engine combines a new concave mirror with a refracting lens that improves contrast and creates a projection angle 138 degrees wider than previously available JVC technology.

JVC claim these models deliver equally outstanding image quality for both standard- and high-definition content.

Technologies include JVC’s optical iris with Smart Picture that gives contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and JVC’s DynaPix HD picture engine with 32-bit CPU video processing supported by D.I.S.T. which seamlessly up-scales any video source to display images at full high definition.

DynaPix HD has noise reduction systems: Signal Noise Reduction lowers "graininess", Block Noise Suppressor detects and eliminates "block noise" and Logical Noise Suppressor eliminates mosquito noise without degrading the image.

Each model also includes a digital tuner with 1-tuner PAP (picture-and-picture), screen freeze and swap picture, two HDMI inputs, two component inputs and PC input and the HD-65DS8DD and HD-58DS8DD models complies to CEC specs.

The HD-58DL8 has a conventional two-speaker system but both the HD-65DS8DD and HD-58DS8DD boast a bass reflex 5-speaker system with two main JVC "Direct Drive" speakers, tweeters and a woofer delivering 30 watts. In addition the MaxxBass feature promises to ensure "rich, resonant sounds" even at low volume.

Pricing and availability to be confirmed.
