Panasonic announced at IFA 2007 that they are going to release a 16GB Pro High Speed SDHC Memory Card. The new card, the "RP-SDV16GU1K", will be globally available in November 2007 with an estimated retail price of $319.99 - about £160.

The 16GB high data storage capacity is ideal for AVCHD High Definition recording. As an example, when used with Panasonic's high-def SD video camera the HDC-SD5, the card can record approximately 4 hours of HD video in AVCHD normal mode, and approximately 2 hours 40 minutes of 1920 x 1080i full HD in AVCHD fine mode.

Panasonic says the Class 6 data transfer speed of up to 20MB/s is fast enough for professional and broadcast-use digital devices.

Toshiba recently announced a 32GB SDHC card that will be available in Japan for around £350.
