Acer has announced that is has joined the Blu-ray Disk Association at IFA 2007 in Berlin, Germany.The move means Acer laptop users and possibly Gateway users, following the acquisition of the US desktop company, will get Blu-ray drives next year.
"With increasing demand and expectation for richer media content, Acer is adding Blu-ray Disc technology into our notebooks”, said Campbell Kan, Vice President, Mobile Computing Business Unit, Acer.
The Blu-ray camp are clearly delighted; “We’re delighted to welcome Acer to the Blu-ray Disc Association”, said Victor Matsuda, chairman of the BDA’s Global Promotions Committee.
The news comes on the back of new figures published by the Blu-ray Disk Association and Gfk that shows Blu-ray has taken a 94% market share in the High Definition DVD player war in Europe. Home Cinema, Blu-ray, Acer, IFA2007
