Toshiba BDX2000 Blu-ray player launched

Amongst the many announcements at IFA 2009 is the release of Toshiba's first Blu-ray player, significant in that the company had previously only supported HD DVD, the standard that lost out to Blu-ray.

According to the company the BDX2000 "delivers high image quality and sophisticated design" whilst the launch "underscores Toshiba’s commitment to high definition entertainment".

The BDX2000 provides full HD 1080p, 24fps playback and supports BD Live (profile 2.0), allowing users to download additional content for a specific film.

The design consists of a "smoked mirrored front panel" with a front panel drop-down door which conceals the players primary functions apparently allowing for a smooth, clean finish.

Other features include 1080p upscaling an SD card slot and DivX/AVCHD playback.

No word on pricing but the player should be available in December and as ever we'll keep you posted.
