Blockbuster has said that it will offer movie downloads on-demand for some Motorola phones as it continues to battle declining video rentals in its stores.
In what presumably must be a last ditch attempt to create a new business model to replace the current ailing one, Blockbuster senior vice president of digital entertainment Kevin Lewis told the Dow Jones Newswire:
"People are increasingly relying on their mobile phones to stay connected to the things they love the most - including their favorite movies and TV shows."
The new Blockbuster OnDemand movie services on Samsung products will be available starting in autumn 2009.
Motorola, who have had a history with video centric handsets in the past is clearly hoping the deal, combined with the launch of an number of new Android handsets will lift it from its own current doldrums.
