Sony has announced its next-generation multi-function DVDirect DVD recorder, which can transfer high-def as well as standard-def home videos and digital photos to DVD discs without using a computer.
The new VRD-MC6 has a 2.7-inch colour LCD screen for previewing video or photos and is almost 60% smaller than its predecessor.
The VRD-MC6 can transfer AVCHD quality videos to DVD discs in 1080i HD resolution when connected directly to a Sony hard drive or Handycam camcorder.
It can also transfer standard-definition home videos to DVD discs from "virtually any" camcorder, VCR or digital video recorder.
As far as memory cards go, it supports slots for Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo media, SD and SDHC and xD-picture card media, or via USB from Sony hard drive, DVD and Memory Stick media based Handycam camcorders.
The DVDirect VRD-MC6 will launch in both the US and the UK but we only have a confirmed price and date for the US where it will cost $229 in September.
