VIDEO: MyDeskFriend - Creepy web-controlled robo-penguin

A company called Arimaz has launched a tiny robot penguin that sits on your desk, pootles around a bit, and - more impressively - interacts with Facebook.

The eyes change colours to convey its mood, but if the video above is anything to go by, then it seems to only ever experience terror and hatred, like most small animals. You can get it to follow your finger, and it uses 5 infra-red sensors to stop it falling off your desk.

But the coolest part is the Facebook integration. The robot "needs" certain things, like food, exercise, and - alarmingly - "meds". Both you and your friends can give it, or deprive it, of those things using an application on the social network.

It comes with a dock for charging, and should be available in September. It'll cost $99 - about £60.
