Olympus has launched three new cameras in the run up to PMA; the C-500, the C-480 and the FE-5500. The FE-5500 and C-500 both offer 5 megalpixel resolution, while the C-480 will offer 4 megapixels. All three models will offer 3x optical zoom and the C-480 and C-500 will offer a 1.8in screen compared to the 2in screen of the FE-5500.The C-480 and C-500 will be available in March. The C-480 will be retailing at £159.99 and the C-500 price has yet to be confimed. The FE-5500 won't be available until May and will cost around £250.
The Olympus C-480 Zoom - main features:
- 4.0 million pixels
- 3x zoom lens (35mm equiv: 38-114mm), 1:2.8-4.9
- 4.6cm/1.8in LCD monitor with 85,000 pixels
- 15 scene programmes (e.g. Candle, Portrait, Beach)
- Editing functions (Incl. Re-size with frame illustration)
- Movie recording function
- Super Macro shooting from 2cm
- PictBridge and TruePic TURBO
- 14MB internal memory plus xD-Picture Card slot
- Uses standard or rechargeable AA-size batteries and shipped with Olympus Master 1.1 software
The Olympus FE-5500 - main features:
- 5.0 million pixels
- 3x zoom lens (35-105mm equivalent), 1:2.8-4.8
- 5.1cm/2.0in LCD monitor with 115,000 pixels
- Slim body at just 24.3mm depth
- Scene programmes (e.g. Portrait, Night Scene, Landscape)
- Editing functions (Incl. Re-size, Black&White, Sepia)
- Movie recording function with sound
- PictBridge compatible
- 14MB internal memory plus xD-Picture Card slot
- Multilingual menu (more languages can be downloaded using the Olympus Master software)
- Shipped with rechargeable Li-Ion battery and charger, USB cable, AV cable and Olympus Master 1.2 software
The Olympus C-500 ZOOM - main features:
- 5.0 million pixels
- 3x zoom lens (38-114mm equivalent), 1:2.8-4.9
- Automatic and Manual modes for full manual operation
- 15 scene programmes (e.g. Fireworks, Portrait, Night Scene) with help function and Function shooting (e.g. Sepia, Black&White)
- 4.6cm/1.8in LCD monitor with 85,000 pixels
- 14MB internal memory plus xD-Picture Card slot
- Movies with sound (time limited only by memory capacity)
- Editing functions (Incl. Re-size with frame illustration)
- PictBridge and TruePic TURBO
- Multilingual menu (more languages can be downloaded using the included Olympus Master 1.1 software)
