Refusing to be put off by Apple discontinuing its ExpressCard slot from its Macbooks, a new format of ExpressCard has been announced by the PCMCIA organization.

The new standard - 2.0 - will feature considerably faster transfer rates. Up to 5Gbps speeds should be possible. It's also backward-compatible with previous versions.

It'll be of particular benefit to users of hard drives connected via the ExpressCard slot, who'll be able to achieve considerably faster file transfers.
