ECS crams ION nettop into Chinese vase

Of all the wacky kind of things you see at trade shows, Computex always brings some of the biggest surprises. This year it was ECS who managed to fit an ION system into a Chinese vase.

The system itself isn’t so remarkable, as it uses a single core Atom 230 processor and the Nvidia ION chipset. It can also be fitted with up to 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 2.5-inch hard drive and a notebook style optical drive.

It’s very basic in terms of connectivity, as at the bottom it has two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port and an Ethernet connector. The HDMI port is housed on a small cable sticking out of the bottom of the system.

As far as design goes, this is pretty crazy, but as long as the rest of the decoration in your house matches, it would seamlessly blend in with your decor...

The system was working and it was demoed playing back 1080p video on an LCD TV right next to it. ECS didn’t say if this product would actually make it into production, but so far it’s the most unusual-looking ION based system at Computex.
