Blackwell gets Espresso book printing machine

Blackwell has unveiled an "Espresso Book Machine" at its flagship store at 100 Charing Cross in London.

The first bookshop installation of its kind within the UK (the New York Public Library got an Espresso back in 2007), the machine prints books on demand in 5 minutes from a huge library of titles.

Producing books said to be "identical to books found in a bookshop", Blackwell is offering 400,000 titles ready to print at the push of a few buttons - a solution for making previously out of print, or niche publications available.

Consumers will be able to go to Blackwell’s Charing Cross book store from April 27 onwards to witness their book printed on the spot, alternatively for those just interested in the book, and not the action, they can order online at www.blackwell.co.uk.
