BackWeb files lawsuit against Microsoft

BackWeb Technologies, a San Jose-based tech company, has announced that it is suing Microsoft for patent infringement.

BackWeb has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court in San Fran, California seeking damages, an injunction and a declaration by the Court that Microsoft's software update technologies infringe BackWeb's patents.

BackWeb alleges Microsoft's "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", Windows Update and others infringe four US patents owned by BackWeb that cover ways of transmitting info between a network and a local computer.

The Microsoft products BackWeb is taking issue with are used for regularly updating the Microsoft Windows OS, Internet Explorer, and Office applications.
