Consumers want to buy green despite crunch

Consumers still want to buy green, despite the current economic climate, and signs that overall consumer spending is down.

Research from the Carbon Trust Standard states that 62% of consumers say environmental concerns influence their purchasing decisions "the same as a year ago", with a over a quarter saying they now care more about being green than they did last year.

The data comes from a YouGov survey that quizzed 2000 consumers, two thirds of which said it's important to buy from environmentally responsible companies.

As far as electronic goods go, one in five consumers (20%) say their choice is influenced by companies' environmental reputation, with 5% more women than men admitting to be influenced by eco credentials.
