Twestival raises $250,000 for charity: water

The organisers behind Twestival, the multiple meet-up events held in locations worldwide for Twitter users, have announced that they have so far hit a quarter of a million dollars in fundraising.

As well as the opportunity to see the faces behind fellow Twitterer's tweets, the event on 12 February, was held in order to raise money for charity: water, a non-profit organisation that brings clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

And, that tally may rise, as confirmation of amounts raised from over 80 cities is still pending.

The Twestival sites say that $250,000 equals 55 water projects in Ethiopia, Uganda and India - clean water for just over 17,000 people.

The site also says that at the start of April, the first well funded by Twestival donations will be drilled in Ethiopia.

We'll bring you news of the final amount raised when it is announced.
