i-mate launches tough 810-F smartphone

i-mate has launched the 810-F, described as the "world’s first complete lifestyle mobile to come with a lifetime warranty".

The manufacturer claims that the phone is built to tough military standards meaning it can cope with extreme pressure, heat, cold, water and humidity as well as shock.

The device's working temperature ranges from a chilly -10 degrees C through to 60 degrees C.

If you have a mind to, it is said that you can drive a car over it, hit it with a hammer or plunge the hapless phone into ice-cold water without ill effect.

The phone itself comprises of a waterproof rubber coating with exposed metal screws which locks in the factory seal, along with a full QWERTY keyboard and impact resistant 320 x 240mm touchscreen.

The new device runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with tri-band HSDPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity, has 2.2GB of built-in storage and 128MB DDR memory.

It also sports a 624Mhz PXA processor, 2-megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, digital compass, accelerometer and Bluetooth.

In addition, i-mate's "Secure i-Q" service lets you use your PC to remotely lock or wipe personal information if it’s ever lost or stolen.

Prices are yet to be confirmed but there will be a full demonstration from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and it will be available in shops "over the coming weeks".

Pocket-lint is attending the Spanish phone fest so will bring you more from there.
