PSP 2 to feature "multi touch technology"?
As always, once a rumour is out, it refuses to die down until the day it is proved right, and that's certainly the case with the whisperings of a PSP 2.
The last we heard was that the new PSP was set for release in late 2009, and that games for the handheld were already in development.
Now reports from IGN are claiming that "several credible sources" have said that PSP 2 will boast multi-touch technology similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch - a feature which has proved popular with mobile gamers.
Also getting the rumour wheels turning is an apparent leak of a Sony survey asking consumers what would most compel them to buy a PSP.
Options on the form included Bluetooth support, integrated hard drive, wireless networking and integrated GPS, which has led many to think this shows Sony is considering an overhaul of the PSP hardware to include some of these options.
However, a source close to Sony has already commented on these claims saying: "Clearly, being a quiet time of year, many, what we thought to be credible websites, are making up stories about PSP2, and how it allows you to teleport across the globe, travel through time, and will be powered by the horns of baby rhinoceroses".
"Hopefully, you can sense a mild tone of sarcasm, which should hopefully indicate how ‘on the money’ IGN are. Needless to say, we don't comment on rumour or speculation, but this is nonsense".
That makes a change to many of the "sitting on the fence" answers we often get when rumours are flying about, so maybe it really is just a lot of hot air. Let us know what you think in the comments.
