EA job losses rise to 1000

Electronic Arts has announced that it is to cut its worldwide workforce by 10%, which equates to around 1000 jobs.

The company revealed in October that there would be job cuts due to heavy losses, but only predicted there would be around 600, or 6% of its work force.

At least nine studios and publishing offices will be consolidated or closed, with any restructuring being completed by the end of March 2009. So far, we know The Black Box studio in Vancouver will be merged with the EA Canada development facility there.

And not only is EA planning job cuts, but also a schedule cut too.

"EA is implementing a plan to narrow its product portfolio to focus on hit games with higher margin opportunities", said the release confirming the news.

No news yet on what we can expect to be cut, but we'll keep you updated.
