Harmonix announces fee for Rock Band 2 song transfer

Harmonix has announced the fee it will charge for Rock Band fans to transfer 55 on-disc songs from Rock Band 1 to Rock Band 2.

The game was announced as being backward compatible with the original from the get go, but Harmonix later added there would be a small charge involved.

It will cost you 400 Microsoft Points, which works out at around £3.40, to get the old songs onto the new game. However, there are a couple which cannot be transferred, including covers of "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath and "Run to the Hills" by Iron Maiden, and master recordings of "Enter Sandman" by Metallica and "Through the Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel.

Any songs you've downloaded previous are unaffected by this fee as they will work automatically with both games.

Rock Band 2 still remains undated in Europe, but its release in America is looming. It will offer 84 on-disc tracks to rock to, as well as 20 free downloadable hits after its launch, according to Harmonix.

The developer has promised that the combined total of songs available for Rock Band will be 500 by the end of 2008 - for the US at least.
