Nokia goes Flashy with Macromedia

11 February 2005 13:51 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Nokia and Macromedia have announced an agreement to bring Macromedia Flash to its Series 60 Platform handsets.

The announcement means that handsets like the Nokia 6670, Nokia 7610 and Siemens SX1 from companies such as LG Electronics, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, Sendo, and Siemens will be able to play interactive Flash animations like interactive transport maps and weather information.

Many commentators believe that Macromedia Flash was largely responsible for changing the web from a boring text based bulletin board to the animated feast that it is today.

As part of the collaboration, Macromedia and Nokia will also provide integrated mobile development tool sets for those wishing to build with the new platform.

Nokia has also agreed to support Flash in its other software platforms at a later date.
